If poem

2. We have been reading Anne Sexton's poem, "Courage" and Rudyard Kipling's poem "If". Both poems deal with the theme of courage. Which poem appeals most to you and explain why. Consider what the poet says and how each poet expresses his/her viewpoint.

I like the "If" poem best because it teaches you a lot of things like love, being happy, and to be a good man. It gives you good advice to be a good person. I agree with a lot of the things that the poet says in the poem.

Believe in yourself even if others don't, but respect their right to doubt you. Be patient, don't lie, and pay no attention to lies about you. When you realize there is more to life than wealth, you will be willing to sacrifice it all just to be happy. Watch the things you love or are important to you fall apart, you will fix them with whatever you have. There are a lot of opportunities in the world and you should take advantage of them. These are things that teach you to be happy and to be a good person. I think it is all good advice.

The poet gets his viewpoint by repeating "if you can." He thinks if you take his advice and try new things you can be a good person. He repeats so we think about everything. All we have to do is try. He tells us we can be a good person "if" we try.

1. Do you agree with Kipling's message in this poem? Why or why not? Identify which of Kipling's statements is the most meaningful to you and explain why. Is Kipling's advice useful for people today? Why or why

Yes I agree with Kipling's message in the poem. He give his son good advice. He wants his son to grow up to be a good man. The most meaningful is line 15 and 16; Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, and stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools. This mean the most to me because your family is the most important thing. Family make you feel important and you always have someone to talk to. Family looks after each other and helps each other with problems.

Yes, Kipling's advice is good. It is important to teach someone about being good. He says to be nice and kind. You should be patient and not lie. He also tell his son to love family and friends. He give good advice so the son can grow and be a good man.

There are alot of opportunities in the world, so take advantage of them and you will be a good man. He says that money is not the most iportant thing. You should be happy.

When you think you can't do something anymore, you should use your strength to keep trying. You should always try to be yourself and not pretend to be somebody else. You can try something new. He also say that you should be honest and patient. If you have some extra time, you should try to learn more stuff.

It is useful for people today because it is good advice. He wants people to be happy and not always think about how much money they can make. The best thing is to be happy. That will not change. He want people to be good and be happy.

Who do you think is the main hero of this story?

I think Mrs.Brown is a hero because she kept her son and she don't want to put her son in the special house. Mrs. Brown is really nice to her son. She treated him like all the other children. Mrs. Browns family even told her to put Christy into a home. She refused because she believed that Christy could think. She was like a hero because she would not give up on Christy. She loved her son just like the other children even though he was different. Sometimesit would be hard on Mrs. Brown. Sometimes she even cry because she don't know if Christy understand. She is a hero because she keep trying. She want Christy to be loved and know that the family love him. She was so proud of Christy when he pick up the chalk and write a letter. She was so happy. Mrs. Brown is the hero because she has to work so hard. She have so many children but she treat them all the same. It was hard for her to keep Christy at home because everyone tell her to send him away. They think he is an idiot but Mrs. Brown know that he can think and she never give up on him. She was strong and she was right about Christy. Christy learn how to communicate because Mrs. Brown keep him at home and love him so much.

Mrs. Brown Paragraph

Mrs.Brown is an amazing mom because she is so patient with Christy.

When the doctors told her Christy was labelled a very interesting but also a hopeless case, she was going to prove the doctors were wrong and Christy was not an idiot. Mrs.Brown decided to help Christy. No matter what the doctors results were, she didn't change her mind. Christy wasn't an idiot. She thought of a lot of different ways to help him. She never gave up. One day she showed Christy a good story book an asked him. "Did you like it , Chris? Did you like the bears and the monkeys and all the lovely flowers? Nod your head for yes, like a good boy." And he didn't answer her questions. Christy was always like that but Mrs.Brown still talk to him and spend time with him. Mrs.Brown is as patient as a teacher. She always found time to spend with Christy even when she had fifteen other children. She always wants to treat Christy like everyone else. Even cause Christy is different she does not get mad at him. She is patient and kind to Christy. She love him and want to prove that he is not an idiot. She is patient when he can not show her that he understand. He can only lay there and do nothing. Mrs. Brown still love Christy and work hard to show that he can understand. Mrs. Brown is a loving and caring mom. She is always kind to Christy and the family. She is devoted to Christy. Mrs. Brown is an amazing mom and I think that Christy love her very much.
