Murder by Lamb

Using the story, "Lamb To Slaughter" by Roald Dahl - complete a journal entry. Use the example given in your notes and answer the following questions.Is it a mystery or suspense? Journal Entry

It is a very scary story about killing. Mrs. Maloney is going to have a baby. She is six months pregnant. She is waiting for her husband to arrive home from work. They go out to eat on Thursdays. Mr. Maloney comes home from work but is very tired. He is mean to his wife when she asks to do stuff for him. Mr. Maloney tells his wife that he wants a divorce. Mrs. Maloney is shocked and go to make supper. She is very mad. She take the meat and hit him on the head. She kill him. She is very scared for her baby so she goes to the store and pretends to be making supper for her husband. He is dead. She goes home and pretend she found him like that. The police come to the house and a doctor. The police ask her a bunch of questions. Mrs. Moloney wants to stay at home and not go somwhere else. She is nice to the policeman and the police ask lots of questions. She tells the policeman to eat the meat in the oven. It is ready to eat and she don't want to eat it. The police are in the kitchen eating and Mrs. Moloney is very happy that the police eat the evidence.

This story is a suspense. It is a suspense because we know Mrs. Moloney killed her husband but it is suspense to see if the police can figure out that it was Mrs. Moloney that killed him with the leg of lamb.

The suspense is introduced when she walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head.

It is resolved when the police are in the kitchen eating the lamb. It was the murder weapon but now it is gone because they ate it. Mrs. Moloney is happy and is keeping her baby safe.

There were no red herrings. I know that Mrs. Moloney is the killer.

This story is not poetic justice. Mr. Moloney should not have been killed. Mrs. Moloney should not have killed her husband just because he didn't love her anymore. She should go to jail because she killed him.
